TheraBreath Multi Symptom Probiotics http://www.therabreath.com/
Cost: $29.00 (Can be found at Walgreens)
As you probably know, I have reviewed TheraBreath products in the past. Last time, I was able to review the toothpaste, mouthwash and oral breath lozenges. TheraBreath contacted me about reviewing their new Multi Symptom Oral Care Probiotic.
I was sent a kit that included toothpaste and a seven day treatment regimen of the probiotic. The product is meant to address oral care issues such as cavities, bad breath, plaque, sensitive teeth, biofilm, gum problems, tooth stains, sore throats and ear aches.
What is a probiotic you say? Well, not being a doctor, here’s what their web site tells us:
“The BLIS probiotic strains used in this new TheraBreath product were discovered to be naturally occuring in the oral cavities of a very small percentage of children who showed a natural resistance to cavities, sore throats, ear aches and bad breath. BLIS strains selectively target hostile bacteria responsible for various oral cavity related illness while allowing beneficial oral flora to remain intact. This prevents compromising your body's natural immunity to disease, which can sometimes happen after antibiotic treatments.”
Bless my youngest son’s heart – he deals with several oral health issues. He’s very cavity prone, unlike the rest of us. In addition, he often is battling several canker sores or even cold sores. He currenty has cavities on several baby teeth that the dentist has decided to just let fall out rather than fill. Sometimes they ache. He seemed the perfect candidate for this process.
The treatment is easy to use. A tube of the powdered probiotic is dissolved in a small amount of water after brushing. Swish for one minute and spit. Then gargle for thirty seconds with the remaining amount and spit. Not difficult.
At first, he was skeptical. He doesn’t like the taste of many things. However, the lightly sweet, lemony flavor of the probiotics was ok with him. He’s been very faithful in using the plan as directed. We did notice that the canker sore he had went away quickly and that he hasn’t had more. Of course, it’s just been a week. However, I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
While I can’t fully comment on its success, I do believe the probiotics are a natural way to deal with the oral issues listed. If we find after a couple of weeks that his sores aren’t as prevelant and his teeth ache less, I’ll order the next set. It was certainly worth the try.
