Slim Down Sunday Meme - Week 8

Heartfelt HomeschoolingWhether you want to lose 10 pounds, 20 pounds or 100 pounds – it always helps to have support from those around you.

Goal – lose 20 pounds
Pounds Lost (Week 7) – Unsure...  Lost up till now - 15

Spent the last five hours in the ER with my son - he almost cut his thumb off.  Didn't have the heart to weigh this morning.  Of course, I didn't get a biscuit on the way home either.

How it Went This Week:

This has been a busy week finished off with the ER visit just a few mins ago.  So, overall, it's been stressful.  I have exercised at TKD and walked in a parade on Saturday.  My friend and I are going to start jogging because I have to do a 3 mile run in 30 minutes to earn my black belt next year.  Best start now and reap the benefits of exercise in the process.

What’s my Plan for next Week:

Originally, my plan was to start the Couch to 5K challenge this week.  It looks great!  I know I have to be able to run three miles; this is a plan to help me do this gradually.  I love a roadmap for success, so, hopefully, their plan will be a good fit.  I bought myself some good running shoes too, which is a step (literally, lol) in the right direction.  My son's injury might push this back a bit, though.

I'm also considering doing a digestive cleanse this week or next.  Probably next given the fact my son will be having surgery on his thumb.  My tummy has been very unhappy with me the last several days - I'd like to get it balanced.  I'm not talking about those commercial products or gimmicks - I'm thinking a natural approach like they have outlined here.

Have you ever done a digestive cleanse?  What about a 5K?  I'd love to hear about it!

  1. April, I'm so sorry to hear about the accident with one of your sons. That would be awful! Hope he's doing well now.

I had intended to really get on the eating right/exercise/lose weight bandwagon in August, but it just didn't happen until the last week.

I have a pretty healthy diet to begin with, but this past week I've made sure that every bite that goes in my mouth has nutritional benefit and I've cut out junk, sugar, etc... It's gone pretty well, but I did have some withdrawals yesterday and my husband said I've been snippy.

I'm alternating my exercise between the gym, Jillian's 30 day shred (just can't do her every day!), and Leslie Sansone walking. I might try that couch potato 5K thing. It looks doable and since my husband has been a jogger for as long as I've known him, that would be one more thing we could do together for fun.

Hope the surgery goes well and that you have a less eventful week!

  2. Hi Bonita,

    Thanks for the well wishes!

That would be great to have your hubby to do the challenge with. You guys could start running 5K's together. :-) I might have to see about getting my hubby interested.

I know I've gotten snippy when the cravings hit... :-) This too shall pass...

  3. I have never done a cleanse or a 5K, but a 5K is one of my long-term goals.

Hope your son is doing well. Sounds like a pretty scary accident!

  4. Sorry to read about your son - hope all goes well next week.

I've never done a cleanse so I can't really comment except to say I hope it works for you. Stay positive!

  5. So sorry to hear about your son!

I've done a cleanse once many eons ago and can't remember what it was only that it caused me to stop smoking.

I've trained the couch to 5K twice in the last 3 years or so, and absolutely love it. I've never done an actual race, though. They don't interest me. I run to burn calories, to get alone, to clear my head. It helps me to focus, cuts down on my hot flashes and migraines, gives me more energy, and probably more.

Hope you're having a blessed Sunday.

  6. I hope your son is OK. I have never done a 5K nor do I ever hope to. I was on a track team in high school and we used to have to run and even then I hated it (and it hurt me to run).

I've never done a cleanse though in the past I have thought of it. Let us know how it goes if you do it.

  7. Hope everything goes well with the surgery! In response to your question, I have had a colonic before. I highly recommend it! At first it's a little uncomfortable to have someone stick a tube up your bum, but nice you can remember to relax and nor clench, it's quite the experience. The technician will recommend that you get a series social, which will be 3 separate colonics spread out for a few months. This ensures that a huge percentage of the colon gets cleansed. It doesn't hurt, in fact, and this is a little tmi, but I found it enjoyable. Aside from that, the aftermath is wonderful. You feel better, lighter, full of energy, you instantly lose inches around the tummy and of course my favorite part is that itnrids the body of toxins. You make sure to schedule yours as soon as things calm down because you will feel so much better! I'm not sure if theyre the same all over, but there is a procedure that
Comes with the one I got. First, I received a massage on an ergonomic chair for about an hour, then there was the foot soak that is another method of pulling toxins out. The water turns from clear to murky! Then the colonic! I swear it's like an entire spa experience! Enjoy!

  9. Shavon, Thank you for the candid comment - it is a great perspective to get. I'm doing the digestive cleanse I linked to now. It's interesting to see how many foods we eat are processed or full of sugar. There's almost nothing I can eat out where we regularly go. Certainly an eye opener.
