Have you ever realized that you are your teen’s hero as long as your wallet is out? It’s an interesting phenomena – I go from being an ignorant annoyance to being amazing with the flick of a credit card.
Some days, it’s nice to be loved and show love by making them happy. Other days, it’s downright frustrating when the attitude turns on the minute a request is made to pick up, clean up, or just be home in time for dinner.
No – this isn’t the Holiday Inn. That’s the mantra around this house. You don’t have a hotel room with free continental breakfast and maid service – you have a family and a home where responsibilities are expected.
Sigh… Can you tell it’s been a rough afternoon?
So, what do you do to keep balance in a home with teenagers? Or is it just mine? No, I know it’s not. Couldn’t be, right?
Oh, I have been saying "this isn't a hotel" all week! It seems especially difficult as we go through the transition into Summer-even I have a hard time deciding what I want from the kids-like it seems ok to let them zone out in front of the tv...until it's been several hours and no one is moving, then I get frustrated-and am wanting to get chores done! Then they have super crummy attitudes:( I did notice the boys are doing better with money now that they are going to work, though. Everything's relative:) Hang in there. I have no magic advice, but you are certainly not alone!
ReplyDeleteHeather, I know what you mean about hours passing. They don't want to take time away from vegetating to get things done. I'm in the same boat and about to start setting some limits there. Thanks for the comment!

ReplyDeleteIt drives me crazy when my eldest wants something - she is so nice to me. Why can't she be nice and pleasant all the time. Just yesterday I had the realization that it's my fault. I've been too nice to all 3 kids. They are actually good kids, and that's how they work me. Lately, the respect toward parents has been lacking. We have 3 days of exams (starting today). Come Thursday evening, I'm not their friend anymore:) It's going to be a LONG summer:)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about being cut off as a friend. I'm in the same boat - I love them so much that I'm a pushover too much of the time. We're tightening the reigns and feeling the pains of pushback.
