Help! I Need a Birthday Present Idea Stat!

My husband just called me and asked - what do you want for your birthday? I turn 41 next week, and he's on a mission to get me a present.

Wow – what a great question! He has been asking me and asking me for the past couple weeks, and I just don’t have an answer.

My standard answer is – full body massage! Yes, that’s what I want from him. Of course, he argues if he doesn’t buy it, it doesn’t count. Hmmm… I just don't do the spa thing, so buying that is out!

He has now threatened to go spend a bunch of money if I don’t come up with something to tell him. That’s a quality threat as I am frugal and he’s not. So, I tend to set the bar on spending. If he moves the bar, I might have a heart attack for my birthday.

So – what do I want? Clothes? No. I don’t need or want anything electronic right now.  Don’t need cooking stuff. Have my homeschooling stuff for next year. Not interested in any hobby right now that needs resupplying. Already have way too many animals. Just redid a couple of rooms. Not into jewelry or makeup. Hmmm…

Ideas? Help! SOS!

Don't get me wrong – it’s a great predicament to be in. So blessed… So so blessed.

Suggestions?

  1. Gift Cards to the places you like to shop for your self and a whole day with out the kids. I like to have a gift card for a lunch in there too. So you go to bath and body works and get your favorite lotion etc. Then your favorite cooking store for that utensile you didn't know you could not live with out then off to lunch and maybe a movie that is not animated?

  2. I like the way you think. I told him an IOU for when I found something I liked, but he wasn't biting. :-)

  3. My ex asks me the same question every birthday, mother's day & Christmas & I never have an answer.

Since it seems like he wants to do something for you have him put together a gift basket for you with your favorite lotion/perfume, chocolates - tell him to use his imagination.

  4. Love your dilemma! Unfortunately I would have a zillion answers if my hubby asked me... :)

I'd say something to do with time:
    1) An event for just the 2 of you
    2) Time off just for yourself
    3) Tickets to an activity to do with your kids
    4) Time off to do something with friends - a women's conference or other
    5) Cleaning or some other chore you detest while you do whatever you want
    6) A chance to sleep in
Or wherever you might be craving time the most. Personally, my days are WAY too short.

  6. I got a bicycle for Mother's Day! I'd waited years for one. Maybe that's not your longed for present, but is there not something that you'd really, really like?

  11. Hi, I just stopped in from the Crew and am now following. What about a nice picnic, or an evening out, just the two of you? It's frugal, and he can spend a little money. :)

  19. How funny! I will be 41 on the 12th of July. I WANT a bike (that is light enough for me to lift onto our SUV) but it will have to wait until a different time. I think the massage idea is a good one myself!

  21. Hi, just stopping by from the Crew. Love your blog. I'm frugal like you. What about a fun event for just the two of you? I told my hubby that I didn't want us to spend much money on our anniversary recently. He found a glass blowing place that let us help to make our own glass heart together. We have an anniversary keepsake but the experience of doing something so unusual with him was a memory I'll cherish more than any gift.

  23. I love the idea of something to do with just the two of you too, tickets to an event, a great restaruant, even a gift card to a great restaurant if he feels the need to really give you a gift!! I also love the idea someone had of a service, spring cleaning, fall cleaning, window washing. Funny, but it was on my 41st birthday that my husband arranged for my father-in-law to come and watch the kids and we went to lunch and a movie! It was so much fun!! Please let us know how you solved your great problem!!! So glad to catch up!

  30. Your last words were "So blessed....so SO blessed!" Why not bless someone else? You could even include the family. Make it a real prayerful blessing. Seek out the person(s) God wants to bless through you...then ask Him to show you how. That's just the first thing that popped into my head as I read your post :) Thanks for following me...I'm from the TOS crew and I'm now following you as well. Happy Birthday :)
