Mastering the World of Angles

Ages: Upper Elementary
I was very intrigued when I heard I would be receiving the Master Angle for review. First, I wasn't sure what it was, and, second, I wasn’t sure how we would use it. When I received it, I was intrigued by the unique design of the Master Angle tool. Instead of measuring 180 degrees like most protractors, this tool measured 360 degrees. My youngest son has a tough time visualizing the measure of reflex angles because they extend beyond his protractor. I realize there are numerous versions of the 360 degree protractor out there; however, this particular version appealed to us because of the moving arm, holes for marking the point of the angle and the color coded numbering. So, yes, I liked the tool…
While the workbook was for a younger age, I found it to be an excellent review of angles for Noah. He enjoyed the simplicity of the exercises. Each page is not overwhelming and really guides the student through the measurement of various angles. As a child moves through the workbook, he is challenged to measure simple angles, then angles of shapes, then create his own angles and finally shown how measuring angles is used in the real world. I think this is important – my boys love to ask, “When will I ever use this?” If I don’t have a good answer, they decide it’s just not that important, and I’m left to figure it out and renew their interest.
I thought this was a good workbook. It focuses specifically on angles and provides reiterative study to ensure they really understand how they are measured. I found it to be a good review and, if my children were younger, would consider it a good resource for studying angles.
While we may not use the workbook, I’m going to keep the Master Angle handy as it will come in handy as my boys move forward in their study of math.

I enjoyed reading your review (as always)! We really like this tool as well. The workbook definitely does point out the real world application.
