Daniel Mills
Salem Ridge Press is a company started by a homeschool graduate, Daniel Mills, in 2005 to provide readers with quality reading that is both educational and pure. Daniel firmly believes that what we take in through reading can affect our character as well as our ideas. I must say, I wholeheartedly agree!

I remember one day I was having a conversation in bible study. I mentioned my grandmother used to read the National Enquirer. Inez, an older lady in the room, commented that she would NEVER read a mag like that. I asked her why? After all, we all know it’s not true. She said it was because she reads a lot. Her brain doesn’t discriminate between the information she takes in. It would be possible that down the road a conversation would bring up a topic relating to one of those “false” facts and she would repeat it forgetting it wasn’t true. She wanted to have integrity in everything she said and did. I had great respect for that and have applied that philosophy to this day.

Daniel uses the following scripture to help guide him when choosing literature to republish.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8)."

One thing he does do is edit the books that he republishes. He edits anything that he and his family feel include “a brief kiss or embrace… derogatory comments that were unnecessary or offensive… [and] illustrations to keep things modest and appropriate.”

While I understand the motivation to maintain purity in our youth, I don’t know that I agree with the editing of original text. I do not feel that their edits take away from the content in any way, however.

I was provided with one paper-based book and two e-books:

Yussef the Guide
The Martyr’s Victory
Out of the Mouth of the Lion

In each case, I found the content engaging for both myself and my sons. While we have not finished all three, I find the content excellent and look forward to using them as applicable to our studies.

I have a profound love for literature and embrace the idea of republishing some of the books that have gone out of print. I am glad that Daniel has taken this opportunity to make these books available again to a new generation.
